King of Kings

Revelation 17:14
These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”

It is quite easy to say that God is our owner, our King and our Lord. However we are required to do more than just say it. We are to remember it always, firmly believe it, and completely resign ourselves to Him and the duties that come with it.

God has made us out of nothing. He constantly preserves us from every harmful thing. He has redeemed us from death by the sacrifice of His Son. He regenerates us continually and renews us for Himself. Thus we belong to Him. We are His subject and He is our Owner.

There is a duty attached to being God's subject. Firstly you must use everything you possess as God's, and not your own. You have the obligation to employ your whole body and soul to His service. Nothing should be kept from Him. No thoughts, words, deeds, belongings, not a minute of your time should be alienated from God.

Secondly we are commanded to love Him. As we love our earthly father as a result of him loving us, so it must be with our Heavenly Father. Yes, it's an obligation, but it comes naturally when we remember what He has done for us.

We are also commanded to trust Him, and cast our burdens on Him. We know that as our Owner he will protect us. He has the ability by being God, and He has the will to do so as our faithful Father (H.C. LD 9). We take care of our cattle, our car and our other possessions because we are the owner of them. We have bought them and therefore they mean something to us. So too with God. He will care for you and protect you because you were bought with the most precious thing ever: Christ's blood.

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you." (Isaiah 43:1, 2)
And who is like Your people Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people—to make for Yourself a name by great and awesome deeds, by driving out nations from before Your people whom You redeemed from Egypt? For You have made Your people Israel Your very own people forever; and You, Lord, have become their God. (1 Chronicles 17:21, 22)

Resign yourself to God completely. Practically this means knowing and believing that He is your Maker, Preserver, Saviour and Sanctifier and therefore your Owner. Know that nothing is too hard for God. Know that nothing you do, no matter the cost, is too much for Him. Know that everything you have is God's and should be used for Him. Know that all those who hide their talents do not use it for God. Know that idleness is robbing God of His time.

Because God has bought us, He has brought us to be members of His kingdom. God is not only our Owner, but our King. It is, therefore, also our obligation to obey Him and seek to please Him, as we would do to our earthly king.

The Word is filled with the command to obey Him:
"If you love Me, keep My commandments. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me" (John 14:15, 21, 23, 24).

See also John 15:10, 14; 13:17; 1 John 2:4; 3:6-10; 5:3; Rev 22:14.

Our command to obey is absolute. As citizens of His kingdom we must voluntarily, pleasantly, and cheerfully obey Him to the utmost of our power. It must be an obedience that is resolute, and stands against everything that tempts us to disobedience.

If we are fully subject and obedient to God we will obtain a great reward. There are great benefits of being obedient to God's will. It is the only way to eternal life and eternal joy. Secondly it is the only way to obtain unity, peace and joy in this life.

God is both your Owner and King. Be thankful that He has bought you and brought you out of bondage to Satan. Resign yourself to Him, as His created being, as His ransomed one, as His regenerate child. Obey His will and subject yourself to His commandments as your Lord and King. "Those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful" (Revelation 17:14).

"Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen" (1 Timothy 1:17).
